ARO Pistachios has joined GigaOM in co-sponsoring our men’s elite cycling team consisting of 10 racers: David Bangor, Jason Benford, Joseph Ison, Kevin Leong, Naveen Molloy, Gabe Morford, Jaffa Prince, Zachary Scott, Connor Spencer, Travis “T.” Big Kudos to David Bangor from GigaOM-ARO Pistachioswho won Topsport Stage Race” this month! The team competes in the highest level of amateur racing known as the “elite” Category 1/2. We got on the inside racing track with our Q&A for the team’s insights, tips, and philosophies in training and achievement.
Q. 1. Describe how the team was conceived and formed.
A. The team was started by Connor Spencer, Joseph Ison, and Naveen Molloy. We were all on another team, but at a certain point we realized our definition of team was not the way things were. We collectively had a vision of how we wanted our ideal team to operate and so we simply decided, “lets give it a shot.” After a couple of weeks of talking to others and putting ideas together, things fell into place, and it has just been great progress ever since.
Q. 2. Where is the team located? Where does the team train primarily?
A. We are based out of San Francisco, Calif. with a couple of riders in the Oakland/Berkeley area. We primarily train in Marin County and around the Bay Area. We are pretty blessed with some of the best riding just outside our doors.
Q. 3. What is the team’s usual training routine in terms of cycling? In terms of other sports training in fortifying and preparing for training?
A. Most of our riders work with the Whole Athlete (http://wholeathlete.com/) program which is run by Dario Fredrick. They devise training plans tailored specifically for each rider and their respective goals. In addition, we have days off the bike to work on yoga and core workouts, as well as meditation training. Cycling isn’t just about pedaling hard, so the program is great about making everything else work well together, nutrition, your body with yoga stretches, and mentally being a smart focused racer. In addition, we are lucky to have the support and sponsorship of Dan Tian Wellness (http://www.dantianwellness.com/). Edith Chan comes from a holistic approach of healing clients, and because of her endurance sports background, she is very knowledgeable in helping the team with injuries and nutrition.
The Fresno Convention Center was transformed into an agricultural showcase hosting the 3rd annual Fresno Food Fair on Thursday, March 14th, 2013. ARO Pistachios, Inc. joined nearly 200 regional food and wine exhibitors meeting with over 640 industry grocers, purveyors, international buyers, and hundreds more comprising the foodie public.

The event was broadcast throughout the day luring over 1,000 ticket-paying attendees over the course of the evening portion. ARO Pistachioshighlighted the benefits of Himalayan Pink Saltand our small batch roasting with Why Pink? sprinkled throughout our booth. Himalayan Pink Saltcontains a higher mineral and trace element content while a lower sodium content compared to sodium chloride or sea salt. Everyone delighted in sampling and seeing Himalayan Pink Salt up close, commenting that it really is pink!

Next year’s show is slated for July 2014. The Expo is expected to dramatically increase in size by conducting it in summer thus allowing for even more seasonal products to be introduced to the public. See you there!

In Greek mythology Eros, known as Cupid—the son of Venus and Aphrodite—with his bow and magic-tipped arrow is an iconic association with Valentine’s Day. Early celebrations may have evolved from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which celebrated Spring and fertility pairing young men and women together for one year. St. Valentine’s Day is derived from Saint Valentine who conducted secret wedding ceremonies and was martyred circa 269. In 496 February 14th was designated as a celebration in honor of his martyrdom. He is often depicted with roses. St. Valentine’s Day became popular in England during the 17th century and enthusiasm for the holiday spread to North America. Today Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, and Australia. And at Orandi Ranch we celebrate pistachiolove every day.

* S.W.A.K. Americans began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s. Today 75% of Americans exchange Valentine’s Day cards, of which 85% purchasing those cards are women.
* Flowers. An estimated 110 million roses are expected to be sent this year on Valentine’s Day. We give pistachios as a symbol of heart healthy love and natural aphrodisiac.
* Chocolate. The Chocolate Manufacturer’s Association of America expects 36 million boxes of chocolate are sold for Valentine’s Day. It’s COLD. But our trees love it—why??? In order to bear fruit in a growing season, pistachio trees require a minimum of 400 hours of weather 42f degrees or cooler. This triggers the trees to become dormat which “resets” their annual growing cycle. When weather and climate do not provide sufficient Chilling Hours, instead of bearing fruit, pistachio trees exemplify vegetative energy.
